The location of many of the parks, wooded and shoreline areas in the Township of Severn offer the perfect place for hiking, cycling and exploring the outdoors.

Uhthoff Trail – This trail runs from downtown Orillia, through Coldwater and the continues as the Trans Canada Trail towards Gerogian Bay. Hike, cycle, ski, or horseback this trail and enjoy the outdoors. This trail is a 30km trail that is open year round. The trail is mostly made up of crushed lime stone and extends from Wilson Point Rd on the 400 overpass at Waubaushene where you find yourself going through scenic wooded areas, then you can head over wetlands and across many streams. Need a break? You can stop at one of the beaches along the trail, or enjoy a bite to eat and a cold drink while in Coldwater.

Enjoy Cycling – This is something for everyone to enjoy, the trails are suited for both beginners and advanced riders alike.

  • Carlyon Loop – this is a 25km ride that is relatively easy, the ride will take you through residential streets, countryside and along the shores of Lake Couchiching.
  • Coldwater Course– this course is a moderate 50km ride. On this ride you will go along Bass Lake, through Marchmont and then back to Coldwater.
  • Upper Big Chute Loop – this is one of the most scenic routes in the Township. Upper Big Chute Loop is a 56km trail, it is known to have a moderate/advanced difficulty level for riders.

Whatever it is that you are wanting to do, make sure to check out the maps that are available to you on the Township websites to plan your routes and make sure you know where you are going.
